LJ Fantasy Hockey
Hey, that fantasy hockey league I posted about a few days ago is growing. We have five teams now. BUT, we need some more! You know you want to join. We're going to have three forward lines, three defensive pairings, and 2 goalies, so our league should get pretty deep; you'll have good reason to draft your favorite second- and third-liners and not be thought crazy!

Joining and playing is simple. To join, just go to:
http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey. And click to sign up.
The league ID is: 53144
And the password is: 123456789abcdefg

Sign up ASAP and lock in your spot in the draft order!

Looking to join a league?
Looking for managers for a head-to-head league that will draft at 4:15 EST on the 29th.
You'll have three lines: C, C, LW, LW, RW, RW, F, W, W, 6 D, and 2 G. (Plus 6 bench spots and 2 IR)
Scoring is based on: G, A, +/-, PIM, power-play points, short-handed goals, faceoffs won, and, for goalies, W, goals against average, SV%, and shut-outs

To join the league, go to this url: http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey
The League ID is 53144
And the password is 123456789abcdefg

We can get up to 20 teams, but I'll be okay with just 10 if that's all we get. If it gets close to the deadline and we don't have enough teams, I'll have Yahoo publish us, meaning that random folk from the non-LJ public can join.

The sooner you join, the better your draft position!

2 minute skating survey
We are a student group at Boston University's School of Management who are desperately trying to finish a project so that we can eat turkey.

One final (ridiculously short!) survey for anyone that is involved in hockey, figure skating, or ice skating of any kind. If you can take this 2 minute survey you will be providing us with a vital piece of information to complete our project. Thanks in advance for your time!

New (very short!) Skating Survey

We are a group of students at Boston University who are working on a project that involves the ice skating industry. If you play hockey, figure skate, or skate recreationally, it would be a huge help if you could take two minutes to take this survey for us! The survey is located here: http://websurveyor.net/wsb.dll/34802/skating.htm

Thank you very much!

Skating project

We are a group of juniors at Boston University who are completing a business development project. We’re developing a new product in the ice skating industry. It would be a great help if you could take our five minute survey, located at http://websurveyor.net/wsb.dll/34802/iceskatingsurvey.htm. One of our requirements is to collect 500 of these surveys so your five minutes means the world to us.

Thank you in advance for the time!

Best regards,

GMH Fantasy Hockey Sim League
The GMH Sim league is looking for dedicated people to become General Managers of a team in their league. This fantasy hockey league emulates the NHL, with 30 teams, full rosters as well as prospects. The league is in its second year of existence, and is planned to run indefinitely. The entry draft for our league is set to begin in two weeks, and we have a couple teams in the league that need replacement GM's.

If you are interested, check out our message board at:
to see our rules, awards, current happenings, and fill out an application. The website with all of last year's stats, rosters, and game results is

If you're looking for fantasy hockey that isn't based on just real life stats and fantasy hockey that doesn't end when the NHL goes to the playoffs, the GMH may be what you're looking for. Hope to see there!

Senior League Hockey
Hey fellow fantasy hockey fans! Looking for a way to get your hockey fix after this season ends. Well, I've found an great online fantasy hockey game. And it's FREE!

It's called Senior League Hockey. It's an online hockey management/coaching game. You get your own team, which you train and dictate tactics for. Then games are played each night and you check the results in the morning. But you can read for yourself what it's all about here (just click on Game Info).

This is a great game! While it's not quite fantasy, it's still a lot of fun and you may even like it better. So come on! Let's play! See you on the ice!

The Day After.
Alright...the fantasy hockey season has come to an end.

So...how did everyone do?

My Yahoo! roto league team had been leading for a ridiculously long time. I ended up first overall in my league with 99.5 points. Second place had 85. Had I made more of an effort to start the right players over the last month, it would have been a lot worse, but I got busy with school.

Can't wait for the playoffs.

Championship round
My fantasy hockey team is playing for the league championship over the next two weeks. Maybe it's partly "beginner's luck" - it's my first fantasy hockey experience and I know very little about hockey - but I have to admit I've had some help through this lj community.

Whatever the final outcome, I must thank smirks for practically mentoring me through the whole season. k0rdell and stinkins also provided some valuable information.

If you want to check it out, it's Yahoo Public 80942 and my team is U R Prey.

I made it through the first round of playoffs and am in the semi-finals of my fantasy hockey league. My team has faced the other team twice and been beaten both times. I just hope my opposition has a bad week!

I have only two offensive players and one goalie remaining from the team I drafted.

Todd Bertuzzi
Todd Bertuzzi could be out for a while due to his hit on Steve Moore. I've just entered the playoffs in fantasy hockey and Bertuzzi is on my team. Argh!

I've got both DiPietro and Boucher tonight in the NYI @ Phoenix game. I'm picking DiPietro. I can play two goalies, so I'm preferring Vokoun at home against Washington rather than Boucher. The Preds are usually pretty good at home, so Washington should be easy meat.

I've also got a pending transaction of Tomas Vokoun for Roman Cechmanek (G-LA). Again, both are playing tonight so I'll see if I still think this is a good idea after the games.

If you're willing to give advice, check out my team. I'm not sure about this goalie swap. It's just my luck that it will go through and Vokoun will immediately come out of his slump. Maybe Boucher is more expendable, but he could come out of his slump, too.

Back down to 3rd
The former 3rd-placed team played the top team. It's head-to-head, so each team's goaltenders must make at least three appearances each week between them. Should a coach fail to meet this requirement, their fantasy team will automatically lose all four of the goaltending matchups. The top team's coach failed to meet this requirement, so instead of that head-to-head finishing 5-3-2 it finished 9-1-0. That was just enough to displace me from second.

Second place would give me a bye in the first playoff round, so I really want to finish second prior to the playoffs. Of course, with the top team losing 9-1, now the top spot isn't too far away either...

Moved back up to second!
I didn't do well last week, but the team that was second did even worse so I move up to second after languishing in third for a few weeks. Not bad considering I know virtually nothing about hockey!

Trade proposed
One of my opponents is offering me Doug Weight (C-StL) for Pavel Datsyuk (C-Det). It doesn't look like a good deal for me and I have no idea what this other person is thinking. I wouldn't think a trade offer of players in the same position would usually make much sense. I'd expect someone with a surplus of great players in one position might offer one for a good player where they have a weakness or something like that, but maybe he thinks I want more penalty minutes and am willing to trade a few goals and assists for them. That could make sense because I've lost the point for most penalty minutes the last couple of weeks, and I just picked up Scott Hartnell (LW-Nash and hitman), which could imply that I'm trying to remedy this. Or maybe this dude is a trade (or crack) addict and offers wacky trades to everyone.

I'm currently second in the league with a 39-27-14 record. It's a public league so there's really no reason to post my roster here - you can see it if you're interested.
